And in this case, she delves deeply into the royal character of Elizabeth II which the New York Times describes as “a vessel as heavily fortified as a gunship.” In the end, however, we witness the queen’s slow recognition that a cultural change has left the monarchy behind. Finally, the Queen has understood not only her duty to tradition and the past, but her need to meet the requirements of the present and calm a grieving nation.
“The Queen” shows this Friday evening, September 7, at the Theatre of Washington on Gay Street at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6.00. The movie runs 1 hour and 43 minutes and is rated PG.
