In a joint effort,, the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors, Washington Town Council and the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association are planning to create a Web site to attract tourists to Rappahannock County officials working on the project said.
The new Web site would fill a gap in promotion of the county's many tourist attractions, several officials said.
“Our county fives off of tourism practically,’' Washington Town Council member Claudia Mitchell said. “If we’re tourist oriented and we’re not doing anything to promote tourism, then the businesses that are here can’t stay here.”
County Administrator John McCarthy who is spearheading the effort, said the county first started looking seriously into creating a county-wide tourism site in late May.
“There’s no place people can go for one-stop shopping,” he said. “Our goal is to have every tourismbased business in the county represented on that website.”
McCarthy said the county plans to offer basic business listings free of charge, and might offer perks for an additional fee. The Web site
