Rappahannock Schools haVe had a 10 percent drop in enrollment over the last five years, yet an increase of 10 percent in the number of school employees. This is a no-brainer. We do away with the assistant superintendent, assistant principal at the elementary school, one kindergarten teacher (because enrollment in kindergarten fell by 16 children) and at least one aide. That’s about $300^000, near to what the school budget was. This is just a start to what could be saved and in no way harm the quality of education of our children.
We need to completely restructure our school system. It is time to seriously consider reducing the number of teachers, aides and administrators in order to fit a smaller school enrollment.
