The American Horse Council has a link to a published report on the newly-released “Global Horse Population,” recently compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
According to the report, compiled in late 2006, there are 58,372,106 horses in the world. The U.S reports the highest total number of horses with an approximate 9.5 million. The new data is strikingly similar to the AHC’s own independent study, which reported a U.S. horse population of 9,223,000 in 2005.
