Residents and businesses in several parts of Rappahannock County would probably find those numbers hard to believe.
Verizon customers in southern Rappahannock have had some well-publicized telephone problems during the past several years.
The Conyers House Inn and Stable, located on Slate Mills Road, was without service fin* a week around Memorial Day In June, Verizon technicians attempted to improve the service in southern Rappahannock by switching service from a copper cable that ran down F.T. Valley Road to the intersection at Route 707 with a fiber-optic connection instead.
Although homes in the area continue to be without dial tones from time to time, Conyers House proprietor Sandra Cartwright-Brown said telephone and dial-up Internet service at her inn has improved since Verizon made that fix.
“I’ve found an improvement for us and we haven’t had losses like we had before,” CartwrightBrown said. “I have dial-up and it’s much foster than it ever was.”
Rappahannock’s troubles with Verizon are not isolated to the southern end of the county
James Massie lives on Route 729, south of U.S. 211, and he says his phone’s dial tone is intermittent. Sometimes service is out for just an hour, sometimes it’s out for more than a week. He said his neighbors in that area: have similar problems.
“It takes so long to get service from Verizon from the time of your outage,” Massie said. Tm only asking to be able to make a call and receive a call 90 percent of the time. I don’t think
