Autumn begins officially this Sunday. Looking back a few days and looking to the days ahead brings a cascade of Rappahannock happenings. American Motorcycles in Amissville is sponsoring a charity ride. With proceeds going to help the Fauquier and Rappahannock Free Clinics, the Rappahannock RoughRide returns with cyclists gathering near Trinity Episcopal on Saturday. For Civil War buffs, there’s an opportunity to learn about what plagued men in the camps from disease to insects. Misty Mountain Farms is sponsoring a spinning day. The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company is haying a yard sale. Our own Pink Mob is performing at a benefit concert with the Culpeper Rock Academy on Saturday. There’s more happening as fall gets underway. Senator Jim Webb supports the Farm Bill. Fellow Democrat, Mark Warner will likely face Republican Tom Davis in a future senate face. Huntly’s Cory Koral speaks eloquently on his opposition to Dominion’s proposed 500 kilovolt power line. Kathleen Grove writes a book review. Bob Lander continues to spearhead efforts with the Scrabble School Foundation and its journey to a Heritage and Senior Center. Fletch needs a home. Bluegrass aficionado celebrates a birthday today. Bill Fletcher turned over his fields to the Thornton Hill Hounds Point-to-Point last Saturday - beautiful rolling hills played host to a cadre of fine riders and tailgaters. Aleta and Bill Gadino hosted a group of students from the high school. They spent a lovely afternoon learning about all things grapes and more. Tourism may get a boost from a proposed new Web site that county, town and other organizations are cooperating to make happen. Not to be totally looking through rose-colored glasses, Ira Wayne Cloniger goes for sentencing tomorrow, the VFW are scrambling to makp a deadline, Verizon customers are still searching for answers and some folks are still speeding through' the Town of Washington. But all in all, from grapes to grassroot efforts, the citizenry of Rappahannock is in celebration with a new season starting on Sunday.
