“It’s something I’ve really been looking into,” Williams said. “It’s beneficial in so many ways. The kids get to learn the basics of the game without a lot of cost, and we could have twice as many teams because we would only need five players on the field.”
Either way, RCHS assistant coach and head of the Rappahannock County School Sports Association Rich Hogan would like to see football offered to the county’s youth.
“A feeder program would do well here,” said Hogan, who’s son Billy plays in Culpeper as well. “Soccer and baseball are two of our most successful sports at the high school level. Those are also two of the most popular youth programs. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.”
