County easement update Recorded September 14, a conservation easement granted to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation by the Estate of Charles E. Johnson IV and members of the Johnson family adds 300.11 acres of protection to the Sperryville area. Fronting on Routes 231, 522, and 600, the Johnson easement effectively merges eight tax parcels into a single parcel that may never be divided into more than three pieces. The new easement abuts several previously existing easements as well as the Sperryville Histone District. This action by the Johnson family brings total easement protection in Rappahannock County to 24,482 acres — which is 18.7 percent of all privately owned land here. Correction An article in the Sept. 13 edition of the Rappahannock News provided an incorrect phone number for the Castieton Community Volunteer Fire Company. The company’s correct phone number is 937-4110.
