Hitt for school
board seat

Jackson District incumbent Wesley Mills edged out challenger Amy Hitt to keep his seat on the Rappahannock County School Board.
Mills won by 42 votes, taking 53 percent of the 580 votes cast. Voter turnout for the Jackson District was 55 percent, coming in just below the turnout for the sheriff’s race but bringing a larger percentage of eligible voters to the polls than all other district school board elections in Rappahannock.
On Tuesday night, both Hitt and Mills waited at the Amissville firehouse to hear the election results.
After the polls closed at 7, the double doors to the firehouse were locked and poll workers busily counted votes.
Hitt and Mills sat next to each other. Hitt wore a white parka and a baseball cap. Mills donned a black Carhartt jacket and a matching cowboy hat.
At around 7:50 p.m., the candidates stood up, and following some commotion, Hitt walked quickly to the doors leading outside. She untangled the rhain and stepped out.
The poll workers had announced that Mills won the race by about 50 votes. The exact numbers were unofficial, but the outcome was decided.
Mills followed behind Amy, looking a bit despondent. He had won, but not by very much.
