The game was the first shutout loss this season for Rappahannock’s football team, whose record dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the Bull Run District. The Mountaineers improved to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Bull Run.
It took Madison just eight offensive plays to score their first two touchdowns. The Mountaineers scored on their first four possessions and led 27-0 at halftime.
Rappahannock received the opening kickoff but was forced to punt after three plays failed to produce a first down. Madison replied with a threeplay possession of their own, with Taylor running in from three yards out for a touchdown.
The Panthers managed to get a little bit of offense going on their next possession. Six consecutive running plays, including five-yard and 20-yard bursts by senior fullback Tim Fitzmorris, produced a couple first downs and moved Rappahannock near midfield. But a fumble on the seventh play of the drive was recovered by the Mountaineers.
