As Stokes went down, the clock ran out with the Panthers just one yard from pay dirt.
Rappahannock recovered their onside kick to start the second half, but couldn’t make anything of the opportunity. The Panthers turned the bail over on downs four plays later at the Madison 37-yard line.
The Mountaineers scored on the next play. Taylor rolled right, threw a short pass in the flat to Johnson and die 5-foot-5 senior sprinted down the sideline into the end zone for a 63yard touchdown. A Madison two-point conversion made the score 35-0.
That was Taylor’s fourth touchdown pass of the night and it came with 10 minutes, 22 seconds left in the third quarter. Neither team came close to scoring the rest of the game.
Senior fullback Tim Fitzmorris led Rappahannock on offense with 13 carries for 45 yards. Freshman running back Connor Settle had four carries for 38 yards, all in the second half.
Rappahannock’s final game of the season is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Manassas Park (3-6, 1-3).
