Open mic
On Friday, Nov. 2, Hearthstone hosted a performance by music teacher Frances Miller followed by an open mic program. The evening featured a variety of music inducting blues, classical and bluegrass. Vanessa Dunn, Jill Fetterman, Eric Freeman, Joe Pipik, Joel Tate, Joe Wilson and Linda Orfila were among the many performers. It was the first in a series of open mic programs planned for the school year. Com maze adventure
On Thursday, Nov. 1, Hearthstone students, teachers and parents made a trip to the com maze in The Plains.
Trip through time
This week the second through fourth grades started their trip through time, visiting the native tribes of North America through stories, art, music, games, cooking and imagination. They will begin with an overview of several tribes, then focus on one tribe per week. Tipi construction is scheduled for Nov. 7th. A trip to the Native American Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., is planned for Nov. 14th. Plans for a service project to benefit a Native American reservation are being discussed.
