Gary and Michelle Schwartz of Heritage House B&B were recently awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by VDOT for their work in the Adopt-A-Highway Volunteer program for the two pas years. After moving to Washington in 2002, Gary and Michelle routinely picked up , trash along the streets during their daily walks with their dog, Sparky. Then, in early 2005, they formally adopted 211-Business in the Town of Washington after learning that the opportunity was available. Since then, they and some hard-working local teens have picked up trash twice a year along the route. Past pickups have netted many beer bottles (Coots Light being the most popular) and some uncashed Lotto tickets (perhaps, related to the Coors Light litterbugs?!) Michelle says “We’re just trying to do our part and keep our little town safe and clean.”

This past weekend was the Third Annual Artists of Rappahannock Studio and Gallery Tbur sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community. There were lots of folks in town. “We had a great weekend,” said Joanie Ballard.
Condolences go to the family of Henry Rivers Hudson of Washington, who passed away on Sunday, Oct. 28.
Be careful in the woods
With the month of November now in, many huntsmen will be heading to the woods for their favorite sport, so please, please be careful as no one likes to report any tragic events.
