entation encompass all kinds of events and happenings: weddings, funerals, parties, public hearings, Town Council meetings, fairs, festivals, parades, theatre, concerts, etc. Lykes hopes that his photographs will be considered a “time capsule” of our county and its people for the years that he has had the pleasure of calling Rappahannock his home.
“It is my hope that through this slide show we get to know each other better,"said Lykes adding “there will be some folks in my archive of photographs that you’ll readily know, and others who you may not know. But none that you’ve seen through MY eyes.”
“I have a sort of reverence for the people in my photographs. I want the best of people to show through in my photographs. There are a few posed “portraits” among my pictures but most are “snapshots” of people doing things. I always try to coax a smile, if I can, and get people in their most flattering poses.”
Richard Lykes’ work appears regularly in the Rappahannock News and in Virginia magazines, as well as various websites including the Town of Washington, Virginia. He contributes much of his work as a labor of love to schools, the RCHS Band, and non-profit organizations.
