Allegheny rate hike
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution Monday to oppose an application from Allegheny Power to raise electric rates.
The State Corporation Commission is the regulatory agency that has to decide whether to approve the rate increase. The supervisors are requesting that the SCC deny Allegheny’s application.
County Administrator John McCarthy said homes that use 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month will have rate increases of 27 percent if Allegheny’s application i» approved.
Allegheny is the electricity provider for more than half of Rappahannock’s residents, McCarthy said.
