Kramer told the Council that financial difficulties had prevented installing a complete dosing system yet but added that the Health Department had approved one field—half the planned dosing system—for conventional waste disposal. The three structures using the field include seven bedrooms on a system designed to handle eight, said Kramer. (Health Department evaluation of adequate sewage capacity is based on the number of bedrooms, not bathrooms, in a dwelling.)
Kramer emphasized that the Health Department had approved the drainfield for the Clopton property cabin. “They’ve approved the aspect that has to do with the land,” he said, noting that he hadn’t submitted plans for the pumping system to date.
Land used in the drainfield “perks quite well,” Kramer continued. "An inch in 30 minutes, and that’s pretty good for this town.” Should the system ever malfunction, Kramer noted that a new drainfield could be laid between the lines of the existing field in practice currently accepted by the health Department.
Whether the variance for the lot division was approved, and the log cabin sold or whether the entire property stayed under one ownership, the same sewage disposal system would be used, Kramer added. (Continued on Page 3)
