“You could say that,” Bloomer commented.

Jennings Hobson noted that the amount alloted for instructional materials in the proposed budget was the same as in the current year if the $2,000 set aside for a new mandated gifted children’s program wasn’t included. With inflation, said Hobson, this means that the School Board will be able to buy less. “Is that consistent with good educational goals?” he asked.

Bloomer replied that the School Board members had to work realistically with available funds and therefore were unable to increase the amount budgeted for instructional materials.

In the category of attendance and health services, School Board member Paul Nichols asked if it wouldn't be advisable to allow enough money for a full-time psychologist in the event that it was impossible to continue sharing the services of a parttime psychologist with Fauquier County. None of the other Board members responded to his suggestion.
