Save your first coffee can with a plastic fid. Cut a small hole in the center of the lid and place a ball of twine in it pulling the end through the opening. Place some rubber bands and scissors inside the can and your first home wrapping center is started. Freeze water for ice in juice cans. Thus one or two large cubes can be used to cool pitcher of cold drinks, saving the small cubes for the glasses. Mrs. W. M. Fletcher gave me this recipe for bread by Mrs. Futrell. She said it slices well for sandwiches.
SOUTHERN
WHITE BREAD 5Vj to 6 cups all purpose flour 1 cup com meal One-third cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 pkgs. active dry yeast
l'/i cups milk
1 cup water
3 tablespoons butter or olea.
Combine 2 cups flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt and yeast. In saucepan warm milk, water and olea until lukewarm; oleo does not have to melt.
Add liquids to dry ingredients and beat at low spead until moistened. Increase speed and beat for 2 minutes. Stir in enough additional flour (about 3'/i cups) to make a soft dough. Turn out on floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes,
