the Educational Association also asked that teacher reassignment “for professional reasons” be made by the Superintendent with the approval of the School Board. If the teacher doesn’t like the reassignment even after discussion with the administration, the teacher will be required to take the new position for one year and then will have priority for the assignment of his or her choice in the coming year.
Mrs. Baines also proposed that pay for unused sick leave upon retirement after ten year’s service be increased and work days alloted for illness or death in the family be increased from three to five days.
The REA also requested that teacher evaluation schedules be moved up to allow teachers time to make up for mistakes during the current year. Mrs. Baines asked that all new and reassigned teachers be observed during the first advisory period and all teachers observed during the first semester with formal administration-teacher conferences scheduled by the end of the third advisory. She also suggested that evaluation forms be included in the policy manual.
School Board Chairman Beverly Massie said the Board would postpone adoption of the handbook revisions until members had time to study the Educational Association's suggestions. She added that she would check into having more copies of the policy manual printed.
