“The schools are already drastically overcrowded. When are you going to start thinking about expansion,” asked Sean Kilpatrick? Mrs. Massie recalled that a special committee was formed two years ago to study space needs but had made no recommendation on expenditure of funds. She said that plans for expansion had already been drawn up but no final decision had been reached and so nothing was included in this year’s budget.
When will there be a public discussion on the proposed expansion? asked Kilpatrick. "When will the plans be made public?”
School Board members and members of the Board of Supervisors have already talked about expansion plans and something for building — "a projection of what we need and when we'd like to see our goals reached” — will be included in next year’s budget, Mrs. Massie announced.
"Your job as the School Board is to decide what we need and then sell it to the Supervisors,” maintained Hobson, adding that a budget item was needed now . to begin moving forward on a capital improvements program.
