To the editor:
As a frequent visitor to Washington, Virginia, my eye is shocked each time I pass the ugly “MOTEL” sign which desecrates the scene at. the entrance to town. Why in Heaven’s name, if there must be a sign, could it not be in keeping with the historic character of the town?
Now a request is pending for commercial zoning of a nearby parcel along U.S. 211 of scarce agricultural land. If this zoning change is approved, Rappahannock will be another step closer to the cheap honky-tonk atmosphere and neon-lighted blight which despoils the landscape of so many other counties. Commercial zoned property belongs in town, not strung-out along our highways. Does not anyone care about the scenic beauty of Rappahannock?
