As a home owner across the street and downhill from the Clopton property, Manson maintained that his well, along with others, would be “susceptible to contamination” from a malfunctioning or overloaded drainfield.
“This is a potential problem that will specifically affect me,” said Manson, while at the same time stressing that he wasn’t necessarily opposed 'to granting Kramer’s variance. “I don’t object at all if the town will give me assurances that the water system will always work,” he said.
Kramer responded that granting his application would not add to the population of Washington since people had lived in the houses involved long before a variance was requested. "Whether the town grants a variance or not, there will be people in those buildings," he said.
Manson commented that maybe his questions “weren’t to the point at all. Maybe they’re just a reminder that the town water needs to be looked at.”
