excavators at the Thunderbird Museum & Archeological Park have located a portion of an historic building foundation along the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Both historical records and narrative history indicate that this should be the location of the Aenon (Enon) Mill House. Both the mill and the house were destroyed in the flood of 1870 according to the records.
Careful examination of the historical records, aerial photographs, and the topography of the land led the archeologists to test the location where the foundation has been found. Further work will attempt to confirm the building as the Aenon Mill House.
Visitors to the Thunderbird Museum & Archeological Park outside Front Royal on Route 737 may see the mill house site and the prehistoric excavations. Robert A. Verrey
