Betty Paleologos. who mounted the challenge to the colonel’s will in accordance with instructions left by Ruth Holmes in her will after she died three months following her brother, said she’d met Ruth in the early 1%0's through a mutual friend. As her health began to deteoriate in the 1970’s, Ruth became more and more dependent on her for help, Paleologos told the jury.
When a lawyer to whom she’d given power of attorney placed Ruth in a nursing home in 1974, Paleologos recalled that she’d contacted Col. Homes, assisted him in getting Ruth out of the institution and lined up a nurse to care for Ruth at her Washington home. Following that incident, sister and brother ended their estrangement and visited and called each other frequently, she said.
