The Reagan administration is "falling all over itself to give tax breaks to large corporations," counting on this approach to encourage companies to invest their savings, thereby creating new jobs, Toscano said. It hasn't worked, he maintained. “Corporations will invest two percent less this year than the year before, despite the big tax breaks."
Instead of following Reagan’s thrust of extending a helping hand to the corporative giants. Toscano said, the Citizens Party proposes assistance instead to small corporations and communityowned and employee-owned companies in order to give communities and workers more of a voice in economic issues.
According to the Citizens Party candidate. both Democratic and Republican administrations have encouraged large corporation to move overseas, "taking American jobs with them,” by allowing multi-national corporations a tax credit here on taxes paid in other countries. That tax break to big business costs $20 billion he said, on top of the tremendous job loss which occurs when a company relocates outside U.S. borders. "Congress is effectively subsidizing the movement of American jobs overseas," Toscano concluded.
