I was getting impatient and tired of forcing my way through brush and jumping from rock to rock, and was walking somewhat faster than I should have been in this terrain. A sudden loud buzzing stopped me dead in mv tracks.
It was a timber rattler, coiled under a rock in front of me. Only its vibrating tail poked out in the sunlight. In the shadow under the rock I could see its head peering at me menacingly.
