Ruritans Meet
Claude Guinn of Culpeper was guest speaker at the Amissville Ruritan Club’s August 18 meeting held at the Amissville Baptist Church.
Guinn gave a presentation on the life of John Singleton Mosby, the “Gray Ghost” of the Confederacy who with his Raiders posted a record of 69 to one agains thte Yankees as measured by killed or captured men. Mosby's Raiders successfully fooled the Union Army into thinking they numbered 10.000 when their strength never exceeded 800, according to Guinn.
At their monthly meeting for August, the Ruritans also began planning for a benefit spaghetti dinner to be held Saturday, October 23, at the Amissville Fire Hall.
