Carl Bischoff

Carl A. Bischoff Jr., 59, died Thursday, August 19, in a swimming pool accident at his home near Castleton.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Bischoff earned bachelor’s degrees at Amherst College, Georgetown University and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He was awarded a master’s degree in public administration by Harvard University.
During World War II, Bischoff served with the U. S. Army in Europe. He moved to Washington, D. C. in the mid-1950s when he joined the Department of State as a foreign service officer. Bischoff returned to Europe during his time with the State Department, serving at U. S. embassies in Germany and Yugoslavia. He was also posted at embassies in Ecuador and Brazil.
In the late 1960s, he transferred to the economic development office of the Agency for International Development. In 1973, he retired and moved to Castleton.
Bischoff was a member of the International and University Clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita Martindale Bischoff, and son, Nicholas B., both of Castleton.
Funeral services were held Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in St. Louis with burial in Calvary Cemetery there.
