As a sorting tool, the triage tags are colored: green for third priority of walking wounded, yellow for second, red for top priority and beige for deceased.
In the staging area, the tagged victims were then divided by colors for treatment. After the condition of the severely injured was stabilized, they were moved off to ambulances, destination Fauquier or Culpeper hospital.
“Originally, we had 60 victims targeted. We expected 45—a few always fail to show,” said Rosson. “By accident, it worked out well that we only had 25 on Sunday because both emergency rooms were packed full of real patients.
“It turned out that we were forced at the scene to look for additional facilities. And that’s exactly what would probably happen in a real life situation,” Rosson continued.
