Don’t look now, but those creatures kicking up dust and trumpeting wildly in the vicinity of the Gay Street Theater may well be Rappahannock area residents afflicted with rhinoceritis. But not to worry. This writer has been assured by the most reliable medical sources that the affliction affects only the social conscience and does no physical harm.
Public interest in rhinoceritis should soar as a direct result of last weekend’s presentation of Eugene Ionesco’s absurdist play, “Rhinoceros”, by the Rappahannock Players. Rhinoeeritis has been known to be spread by audience contact and if the opening night crowd can be used as an indicator, community contagion should insure packed houses for this coming weekend’s performances.
