hut according to .Inn Sharp, equine specialist with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and advisor to the VHC, is an effort to “increase communications between the legislators and those involved in the horse industry and the business of agriculture in general.”
Says Sharp, “The ride puts a face on agriculture."
Continuing, the specialist says that the goal of the ride is to “create a deeper empathy, and offers a gut appreciation of what people in the industry are all about. Hopefully, one benefit will be to put the horse industry in people’s minds as being in the mainstream of the agricultural industry. It also offers the legislators the opportunity to realize that the horse business is by no means limited to the very wealthy, but is made up of working people.”
