Shenandoah National Park will be the scene of major road rehabilitation work for the next several years, according to park Superintendent Robert R. Jacobsen.
A majority of this effort will occur along the park's Skyline Drive. This coordinated effort between the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration will be funded from the recently established Federal Lands Highway Program and will entail an upgrading of this wellknown roadway by replacing rusted and deteriorated drainage pipes, reconstructing subsurface drainage systems, scaling loose rock and boulders from roadside cliffs, and adding new pavement.
This first in a series of rehabilitation contracts has been awarded to M. A. Layman and Sons, Inc., of Harrisonburg, who was the lowest bidder at $3.(5lfi,342.50 from a group of seven firms. The main effort of this first contract will occur along Skyline Drive
