Ron M k* Atkins, Rappahannock’s other distance hopeful, was humped at the start of the two miles, recovered and moved up to third in the large field. Rut he was stepped on and attain lost ground and this time, his recovery was hampered by a shoe lace that came loose and Happed dangerously around his feet. Atkins gamely continued, interrupting his concentration every few strides to glance down and check the dangling shoe lace. He finished 9th. not high enough for a berth at Spotswood.
