John Bawkey
World War II Veteran
John Hoffer Bawkey, 58, of Culpeper, died Wednesday, October 5, 1983, at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
A native of Culpeper County, he was the son of the late William Claude and Fannie Cobb Bawkey. He was employed by Rochester Ropes Corporation.
Mr. Bawkey was a member of Gourdvine Baptist Church, American Legion Post 330, and Madison Wildlife Association. He was a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Yowell Bawkey of Culpeper; three sisters, Mrs. Russell Shaw of Mitchells, Mrs. Orellia Berry and Mrs. Eugene Dodson, both of Viewtown; two brothers, Ennis Bawkey and James Bawkey, both of Rixeyville and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at Clore Funeral Home Chapel in Culpeper by the Rev. James Crane and the Rev. Kenneth Honeycutt. Burial was in Fairview Cemtery.

Joe Weldon Bowers of Culpeper, died Friday, October 7, 1983, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
A native of Culpeper County, he was the son of the late Robert Wimpson and Blanch Monroe Bowers.
Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Lois E. Smith of Sperryville, Mrs. Emma Jean Martin of Culpeper, Mrs. Robbie Lee Bell of Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs. Jessie Frances Fincham of Doswell; two brothers, John Russell Bowers and Marshall Ashby Bowers, both of Culpeper and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday at - p.m. at Fairview Cemetery by the Rev. Edward Hawkins.
Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of arrangements.
