“At issue in this campaign is a law enforcement system that is equal, fair and just; where no one is above the law and no one is below it,” stated Martin Or f’ila, candidate for sheriff.
At last week’s forum, Orfila reviewed his connections with law enforcement that began as a deputy under sheriffs .John Walker Jenkins and W. A. Huntiri and continued through five years with the state police. “The issue here is leadership, management and organization. Rappahannock County is in a new era of law enforcement (with completion of the jail and dispatch center)... We need management and leadership...The deputies need to know their limitations ANT) their abilities. The men need goals and objectives set on a daily basis,” Orfila maintained.
“We do have drunk driving and narcotics problems in Rappahannock County... We’re 274 square miles of isolation but at the same time, we’re very close to the metro area,” Orfila said, explaining the incidence of drugs here. “We need to develop a deputy sheriff, an investigator for the narcotics problem, who can go into the community and deal with it,” the former State Troojier maintained.
