“You all are going to be the real winners in November by being here tonight,” Mark Wittl told the audience at last Wednesday’s forum, congratulating them for taking the opportunity to judge local and state candidates for themselves.
As sheriff, the county needs “an educated, sensitive professional who will serve all without prejudice or bias,” the former deputy said. “We need a sheriff who believes that the rights of the ordinary citizen are equal to the rights of the wealthy landowner... A sheriff who is physically fit and can personally respond to the scene of a crime...a sheriff who has no outside obligations.”
Wittl promised to bring “confidentiality” to the sheriffs department. He also said he would increase night road patrols and decrease the use of “ineffectual” police road blocks that harass law abiding motorists. “I will protect and serve you,”
