We hope Eleanor Switzer and Geraldine Gasch have happy birthdays, that is a happy birthday; they share October 21 — next week you’ll want to send both of them cards. Tomorrow would have been President Eisenhower’s 93rd birthday — We remember that because it is also Mary Lou Crossman’s (but she’ll only be about Vs as old) our former neighbor in Rixeyville — once she got a card from Ike because they shared their birthday. Columbus Day (the real one — yesterday) was Aunt Michele’s sister’s birthday. Her name is Dixie, but she’s a Yankee. Lives in Grant, Michigan.
We want to send a special big fat hello! to Angela Tribino in Arizona. She reads the Castleton column compulsively and says she would like to grow up like Aunt Michele — poor deluded darling — and become a writer. Maybe she has some other aunt in mind — Auntie Maime perhaps. But seriously, friends like that “open a new window” — Thank you, Angela.
