Brian Tauss says Sunday’s get-together was “outstanding.” The chicken was barbecued outside — he says it was a “beautiful day for it” — then carried inside for serving. Gathered around the table with Brian and Mary were: Milton and Lois Hargreaves from Florida. Shirley Ashley from Chevy Chase, Russell Bertram from Springfield and Clarence and Virginia Bertram from Oakton. Brian says “everyone had a really good time.”
Everyone had a really good time at a certain dinner at the fire hall on Friday night and there were several candidates present, but we promised not to mention any of them until after the election. Someone said there were more than a hundred people there, but our correspondent was in Charlottesville at the time and can’t vouch for it.
Aunt Michele was looking at antiques with Lee and Diana Bird and Bob Dennis and watching the famous appraisers from Christie’s on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. Donna Fisher was a little jealous and said it must be nice to “do these class acts.” Aunt Michele replied that she really had more fun on Sunday listening to Joe Boucher playing pretty songs “just for you” over the radio and reading a Popular Library Gothic called “Rachel, the Possessed.” And you know what? Donna had bought the same book and says she read it all the way to the end just to see how bad it would get.
Aunt Michele has just got to the part where Rachel is possessed by the ghosts of two dead witches and the handsome man has asked her to marry him anyway. That’s why she didn’t call you all until Monday night.
