“The sheriffs department is one of the fastest growing departments in Rappahannock County with the addition of the jail and the dispatch center. As deputy, I’ve worked closely with plans for both,” Woodward said.
A native of Rappahannock, Woodward noted that he has worked in the county for the past 15-20 years, including three years as a deputy, a position he now holds.
“I want to serve the people of Rappahannock County as best as I can...The sheriffs department has improved in the last eight years under the reign of W. A. Buntin. I want to see it continue to improve and to serve the people of the county.”
Woodward said he would keep the door of his office open at all times. “The purpose of the sheriffs department is not to arrest everybody who disobeys the law. Many times, a good talking to will do more good than an arrest. We need a sheriff who can tell the difference and the common sense to listen to everyone’s story,” Woodward maintained.
“We’re going to be dealing with a whole new field with a dispatch center and a full-time jail. It must be handled with a thorough thinking out beforehand of problems we will face...I plan on operating the department to everyone’s benefit as economically and
