Mrs. Mary Rice Hottle, 56, of Sperryville, died on Sunday, October 9, 1983, at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal.
A native of Rappahannock County, her parents were the late James D. and Tenie May Gore Gaunt. She was the wife of George Henry Hottle.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Miss Rebecca Ann Hottle and Miss Rachel Marie Hottle, both of Sperryville and Miss Mary Martha Hottle of Falls Church and two brothers, John Henry Gaunt of Luray and James D. Gaunt of Reva.
Graveside services were conducted on Wednesday at the Sperryville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Floyd Clatterbuck, Raymond Ralls, Thomas Tuttle, Wilson Woodward, John Allen Atkins, Thomas Taylor, Richard Dwyer and Danny Carter.
Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of arrangements.
Shelton Scroggins

Shelton Lee Scroggins, 73, of Lignum, died Monday, October 10, 1983, at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
A native of Rappahannock County, his parents were the late James and Lelia Cubbage Scroggins. He was a member of Lael Baptist Church and a deacon of that church. He was retired from the Window Factory.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Mae Backe Scroggins of Lignum; one nephew, Alexander L. Coughlin of Culpeper, whom Mr. and Mrs. Scroggins raised; two sisters, Mrs. Vada Pearl Fincham of Culpeper and Mrs. Eliza Hicks of Morrisville and one brother, Charles Otha Scroggins of Lignum.
Funeral services were held at the Lael Baptist Church at Lignum on Wednesday by the Rev. Gordon George and Dr. Bernard F. LeSuer. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Culpeper.
