Rappahannock’s rise in minimum competency test scores reflects a statewide trend, according to figures supplied by the Virginia Education Association.
More than 94 percent of the state’s tenth graders taking the tests last March passed both the reading and math sections. The figure represents a slight increase from the year before, a substantial improvement since 1978 when the tests were given for the first time. Then just 85 percent of the state’s students passed both sections.
