as much relevent information as possible, such as a description of the nature of the problem, its exact geographic location, the date and time of the incident, the suspected parties, and, if possible, the type of material or containers being disposed.
Also, callers are encouraged to leave their names and telephone numbers so that EPA may obtain additional information if necessary. In this way, EPA can conduct an effective follow-up investigation of each complaint and provide a direct response to every caller. EPA will protect the anonymity of all callers.
EPA’s toll-free hazardous waste hotline is available anytime a “midnight dumper” is suspected. All calls will be answered personally between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.; but, after that time, the messages will be recorded. However, if an environmental emergency arises that needs immediate attention, such as spills -af oils or hazardous substances, it should be reported to the National Response Center at 1-800424-8802.
