It looked m the final period that the RCHS Panthers would win their first of the year. Pendleton was charged with a technical for coming onto the court without a signal from the referee, a correct but picky call. The penalty lit the fire again. Pendleton and Tommy Jenkins each scored two to draw Rapp within eight, pendleton fouled out but not before he'd amassed 17 points, seven rebounds, five steals and one assist.
Then guard Jeff Porter rallied the troops with a steal and a basket to narrow it to 50-4G. With 2:10 on the clock, momentum on their side and the score 54-50, the Panthers looked ready to make a run. But again they were plagued by fouls as four players were sent to the bench for hitting the .limit of five. That left Porter, Jenkins and Rob Brown to hold the fort. They kept Rapp in the game.
With 32 seconds left, Rappahannock was down by five and Madison had the ball. The Panthers stole the inbounds pass but Porter walked anti it was Madison’s ball again. Then Lady Luck smiled on the Panthers. Madison was called for a technical and Brown hit the t-shot. 57-53.
The Lady continued to smile as Porter sank one from the corner. 57-55. Next a Mountaineer was called for traveling on Madison’s possession after the basket. Rappahannock had the ball and the smile on the Lady’s face widened.
