To the editor:
In response to “Letters To The Editor...‘Thank God'”, I most heartily agree that a feeling of thankfulness is indeed gratifying and that Thanksgiving is an excellent time to express this feeling, although not necessarily confined to that, or any, holiday season. Even as I write I am quite thankful for the beauty I see around me.
Having the word "God" omitted from a Thanksgiving editorial was not at all offensive to me or mine nor did I search for it in vain. God is not a fact but a belief. If indeed a god (or gods) do exist, he (or she) surely noted our thankful feelings. (Omnipotent beings are like that—yea, they are) Any god who is wide awake will know when he or she is being appreciated. Besides, which god would we honor? The Jewish and Christian god, Jehova? His son, Jesus? If we are American Indian, perhaps Manatu should be credited. Then, again, if we be east Indian, Buddah might better suffice. Of course we can’t omit Allah, and, if we get into ancient Rome, Greece, Scandinavia, Egypt, etc. we would have so many gods to thank, where would we stop? I haven’t sacrificed a goat in years!
