Town Response
Mayor Newbill Miller responded that he had seen construction start and notified one of The Inn's owners Pat ric k ()'('onnell, that what had been promised in the plans was not being followed. The building lines were not supposed to change, Miller said, and he had asked that construction stoj) until the matter could be “straightened out." If there would be* considerable expense to remove the items now, the hardship was The Inn’s responsibility for having gone ahead with the project, he said.
Miller said the council would review the variance with its lawyer.
The Inn faces construction deadlines, Dickey countered, and would like- to have the- matter expedited.
“You always have these deadlines,” responded Miller. “You come and take a little more (each time). Kverything is rush, rush.”
A motion by Taylor Updike to confer with counsel was unanimously approved.

Landscape architect Will Hoare who designed the fountains at The Inn expressed surprise at the controversy the- trees were causing. If such improvements were made in Kngland, the- area would be named a conservation district and the work would be ilone with public funds, he maintained.
