As Pendleton headed down court on a fast break, the stands quieted, ready to erupt for the expected slam through the hoop. But Pendleton slipped and missed the dunk and the points.
However, the home Panthers kept their poise. Estes’ shot didn’t fall but Pendleton turned the miss into a behind-the-back layup and free throw for threepoints and a one point lead, 24-23. Then it was Rapp’s turn to force turnovers and make shots but Page hung on to stay within a single point, 31-30, at the half.
The two teams swapped the lead back and forth when action began again. Then page grabbed control after the home Panthers missed another ”ally-oop” play to the inside.
And then RCHS caught a terminal case of foul trouble. Point guard Jeff Porter was tagged with his fifth early in the fourth quarter, he was followed in rapid succession by Estes, Mike L)elGrosso and center Tom Sisk. Rapp’s squad then made things worse by rushing shots that shouldn’t have been taken in the first place, trying to get back too much
