Raman and Kaman, both from South Central India, formed the adventure club with other university students after their conversations always led them back to their desire to learn through experiences.
“The purpose of the club is to inculcate the spirit of adventure in youth," said Kaman. “We try to do things that are educational, too.” This trip is Kaman’s second project few the club. He r«n 7,500 across India for his first project.
They had intended to travel frorfr New York to Los Angeles, but a lack of funds caused a change in destination. After the Bhopal tragedy, Raman and Kaman decided to spread the word about the Lions Club International’s assistance program for the Union Carbide chemical leak victims.
“We were moved by the stories about Bhopal, and we wanted to help,” Kaman said. They met with Warren Anderson, corporation chairman for Union Carbide, and had what Kaman termed “an interesting conversation. ”
Each new experience the pair have is added to their journals. “We are learning about cultural differences,” Kaman said. “We still have some doubts and questions, but they may be answered before we finish.”
