Mary Tauss has lived with her family in Rappahannock for the past eight years and has worked for various offices and community groups during that time.
On Sept. 3, she will drop some of her activities and take on her duties as executive director of the Child Care and Learning Center (CCLC). Tauss’ appointment was officially made on Aug. 24 by the CCLC board of directors.
“I have a degree in education, and I’ve never followed through on it,” Tauss said. “I thought that now would be a good time to use it.”
Tauss earned her degree from the Northern Virginia Community College in Fairfax. She worked for four years as an office manager for Household Finance Corp. in Fairfax before moving to Rappahannock and working as the Family Guidance Services office manager for two and a half years.
She has been the assistant librarian and library treasurer at the County Library for the past year while working one day a week as a church secretary. She is also on the board for the American Heart Association.
“Combined, I have seven years of experience in administrative work,” Tauss said. “The Center needed someone with an administrative background as well as education.”
Lois Manookian, a member of the CCLC board, said that there were 26 applicants for the position and 12 applicants were interviewed. “Of those 12, three to five were highly qualified for the directorship, like Mary,” Manookian said.
Tauss has, three-and a sevenyear-old daughter who attend the Center. Her husband, Brian, is the juvenile probation officer for Rappahannock and Fauquier counties.
