They said that most of their experiences have been good, and that they have found Americans to be generous and nice. “The only bad thing was when a crazy man shot at me, but luckily he missed,” Kaman said.
Raman and Kaman will write in their journals about a good experience in Rappahannock.
“The Scoggins were wonderful hosts, and we learned a lot from them,” Raman said. “We attended a chui h picnic with them on Sunday, and everyone brought a dish and shared. We don’t have such ‘potluck’ picnics in India, so it was a unique experience for us.”
The two were equally impressed by their conversations with the Scoggins including social problems, religion, U.S. history and basic differences between Americans and Indians.
“I told them that if I were taking this trip, I would be up at daybreak planning each aspect, I would know exactly where I would be at the end of the day and I would keep a mileage count,” Scoggin said. “I would
probably also miss a lot of the human side that they’re seeing.”
Raman and Kaman try to cover 20-30 miles a day, and they make their routes up one or two days in advance.
