Bus stop

waiting for the bus in a central location. Th buses in a country school system make nearly as many stops as they carry passengers.

But where I come from — “when I was a kid” — the bus might make two or three 8tops and fill every seat two-deep. It was a meeting place for all public school kids, in total disregard for any sociological threads. If you lived in that community, you stood at the bus stop. Every day. Rain or sunshine. Rich or poor. Smart or dumb. Springtime’s warmth or winter’s freezing cold.

It was one of life’s true democracies.

It took me exactly five minutes to walk from my house to the bus stop at the corner. It also took me exactly five minutes to eat my cereal and to drink the milk at the bottom of my traditional blue plastic bowl.
